Microsoft Mandates 3 Days in Office per Week Starting February 2025
Microsoft announced that beginning February 2025, employees based near its Redmond headquarters and across the Puget Sound region will be required to work on-site at least three days a week. The policy will gradually expand to other U.S. offices before rolling out globally.
In an internal memo, Amy Coleman, Chief of Human Resources at Microsoft, explained that the move is designed to foster collaboration: “As we build the AI products shaping this era, we need the energy and creativity that comes from smart people working side by side.”
The company has already begun notifying employees living within 50 miles of a Microsoft office in Puget Sound about the change. This marks a shift from the more flexible policy introduced during the pandemic, which allowed staff to work remotely up to half the time without manager approval.
While Microsoft has carried out several rounds of layoffs in 2024, the company emphasized that this change is not tied to headcount reductions but is focused on strengthening teamwork to better serve customers.
In its July earnings report, Microsoft beat Wall Street expectations, briefly pushing its market capitalization above $4 trillion, underlining its strong momentum as it doubles down on AI and productivity innovations.
