Nvidia is aiming to introduce more advanced chips to China beyond its current H20 model, CEO Jensen Huang revealed during a press conference in Beijing. This strategic move follows the company’s decision earlier this week to restart sales of the H20 AI chip in the region— a product specifically designed to align with U.S. export regulations.

Huang expressed optimism about future advancements, saying, “Technology never stands still. While the H20 serves current needs, we hope to offer even better solutions in the future, in line with permitted regulations.” He referenced the company’s Hopper chip architecture, on which the H20 is based, as part of its ongoing innovation pipeline.

Nvidia has been navigating complex U.S.-China trade dynamics, particularly regarding semiconductor exports. Restrictions have limited the availability of its most sophisticated chips in China, prompting the development of modified versions like the H20.

Earlier this year, the company reported a $4.5 billion writedown due to unsold H20 units, noting that its quarterly revenue could have been $2.5 billion higher without export limitations.

Despite supporting U.S. initiatives to bolster domestic chip manufacturing, Huang continues to advocate for more flexible policies that allow greater engagement with Chinese markets.
