Jeff Bezos has named longtime Amazon executive Tom Taylor as the new President and CEO of the $10 billion Bezos Earth Fund, a major philanthropic effort focused on tackling climate change and preserving biodiversity.

Taylor, who spent over two decades at Amazon and previously led its Alexa voice assistant division and third-party seller services, shared the news via LinkedIn on Tuesday. After retiring from Amazon in 2022, he’s now returning to a leadership role with a renewed mission.

“I’m excited to take on this bold challenge to help solve Earth’s environmental crises with long-term vision, technical innovation, and sharp execution,” Taylor wrote.

Launched in 2020, the Bezos Earth Fund supports scientists, environmental groups, and innovators working to protect the planet. The fund plans to allocate its entire $10 billion by 2030, and has already granted $2.3 billion to global climate and conservation initiatives.

Since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021, Bezos has dedicated more time to philanthropy, donating shares and resources to causes including the Earth Fund. Taylor replaces Andrew Steer, who stepped down as CEO of the fund earlier this year.
