LONDON — The United Kingdom is set to become a global hub for artificial intelligence as Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, OpenAI, Salesforce, and CoreWeave announced over $40 billion in new AI investments.

Microsoft alone pledged $30 billion by 2028, with plans to build the nation’s largest supercomputer powered by 23,000+ advanced GPUs in partnership with British cloud firm Nscale.

Nvidia confirmed a massive £11 billion ($15 billion) commitment, deploying 120,000 Blackwell GPUs across the country — its biggest rollout in Europe to date. “This will make the U.K. an AI maker, not an AI taker,” said David Hogan, Nvidia’s Head of Enterprise Sales for Europe.

Google announced a £5 billion ($6.8 billion) investment to establish a new data center in Waltham Cross, expected to support Google Cloud, Search, Maps, and Workspace, while creating over 8,000 jobs annually.

OpenAI revealed “Stargate U.K.,” a dedicated expansion of its global AI infrastructure project, backed by Microsoft, Nscale, and Nvidia. The initiative will launch with 8,000 GPUs in early 2026, with potential growth to 31,000 GPUs.

Salesforce doubled its U.K. commitment to $6 billion, highlighting its long-term vision to scale digital transformation in the country.

Meanwhile, CoreWeave announced an additional £1.5 billion investment, bringing its total U.K. spend to £2.5 billion, aimed at expanding AI data center capacity.

The announcement coincides with President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain and upcoming talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where both leaders are expected to sign a landmark deal to boost cooperation in AI, Quantum, and Nuclear technologies.

With these historic pledges, the U.K. is positioning itself as Europe’s AI powerhouse, competing head-to-head with the U.S. and Asia in the global tech race.
