Perplexity Unveils ‘Comet’ — A Smart AI Web Browser for Premium Users
Perplexity AI has introduced Comet, a cutting-edge web browser powered by artificial intelligence, marking the company’s bold entry into the competitive internet services space alongside tech giants like Google and Microsoft.
Launched on Wednesday, Comet allows users to engage with enterprise tools such as Slack and pose complex queries using voice or text. A demo video released by the company showcased the browser’s advanced capabilities designed to enhance productivity and streamline digital interaction.
Currently, Comet is available exclusively to Perplexity Max subscribers, with invite-only access set to expand gradually throughout the summer. The subscription costs $200 per month.
“We built Comet to let the internet do what it has been begging to do: to amplify our intelligence,” the company said in a blog post announcing the release.
Perplexity gained recognition for its AI-driven search engine, which provides direct answers along with source links. Following concerns about content reuse from news publishers, the company rolled out a revenue-sharing program with media outlets last year.
In recent months, the startup has attracted significant investor interest. In May, it was reportedly in advanced discussions to raise $500 million, targeting a valuation of $14 billion. Earlier this year, Perplexity was also approached by Meta for a possible acquisition, though no agreement was reached.
The company says it will continue refining Comet based on user input, promising more features and a steadfast commitment to building reliable, curiosity-driven AI tools.
