Instagram Hits 3 Billion Monthly Users, Joining Facebook and WhatsApp at the Top
Instagram has officially surpassed 3 billion monthly active users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Celebrating the milestone, Zuckerberg shared on his Instagram channel, “What an incredible community we’ve built here.”
This achievement marks a significant moment for the photo and video-sharing app, which was acquired by Meta in 2012 for $1 billion. The last official update came in late 2022, when Instagram reported 2 billion monthly active users.
Since April 2024, Meta has stopped publishing user counts for individual apps like Facebook and Instagram each quarter, instead reporting combined usage across its family of apps. By July, this collective figure had reached 3.48 billion daily active users, surpassing market expectations.
With Instagram now joining Facebook and WhatsApp in crossing the 3 billion monthly user threshold, the platform cements its position as one of the most influential social media networks worldwide.
