Google is supercharging its Chrome browser with Gemini AI integration, aiming to stay ahead of rising competition from AI-driven platforms like OpenAI and Perplexity.

In an announcement on Thursday, the company revealed that Gemini will roll out across Mac, Windows, and mobile devices in the U.S. Users can now interact directly with Gemini to summarize or explain webpage content, work seamlessly across multiple tabs, and even handle tasks within a single tab — such as scheduling meetings, drafting messages, or searching for YouTube videos.

“We’re evolving Chrome to help you get more out of the web in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of platforms and devices. “And we’re doing it while preserving the speed, simplicity, and security that users have always loved about Chrome.”

With browsers serving as the primary entry point for online activity, they’ve become a key battleground in the AI-powered search race. Google and Apple have long dominated these digital gateways — a fact that recently drew attention in the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust case. Regulators argued Google’s dominance in Chrome limited competition, but the court ultimately allowed the company to retain ownership, citing the disruptive impact of generative AI on the industry.

By embedding Gemini directly into Chrome, Google is signaling that the future of web browsing is deeply tied to AI, ensuring users have intelligent, contextual support at every step of their online journey.
